One Last Thing...

Best Dressed
Victoria Beckham F/W 2011 Midnight Blue Dress, matching Philip Treacy Hat, custom made Christian Louboutins.  I just wish Becks would have actually worn the top hat!

Color Collective

Can't get enough of blues and corals lately.  I have been starting lots of new projects with these colors in mind.
Has anyone else been feeling extra inspired/arty/creative these days?  Maybe the moon is in my seventh house or something.  Haha.

Just So You Know...

I won't be happy until this is my life!
Maybe I'd settle for just the shoes...

Royal Choice

I am very excited about the Royal Wedding!  How about you?
I wish I could stay up tonight to watch it live but I know how tired and cranky I get, and I think watching the reruns all day tomorrow will be fine.
Speculation has run rampant about the designer of Kate Middleton's dress but when I saw the above image I was smitten, this stunning design is what I would choose.  I think Kate needs a coat of armor to prevent her from the storm of craziness coming her way.  I hope she's prepared for it.

Wednesday Walk

Some shots from my walk this morning.
Those trees are trying to make a heart, don't you think?

Creaster

Ended up doing nothing on Easter.  And I mean NOTHING.  I had found out on Saturday night that the store I work at was going to be closed on Sunday so I had an awesome unexpected day off.  There was a loose plan in my mind of things I could do, but I started doing a little cross stitching and re-watching the first 2 seasons of Parks & Recreation (my favorite show in the world right now) and before I knew it five o'clock rolled around and I was still sitting in my PJ's on the couch.  I was shocked!  So much so that I was forced to do nothing for the rest of the night.  Hee hee.  I did get a new stitching project started (details to come) and I took the above picture that I like, so that was good.  Today is all about cleaning, getting out of the house, a short 2 hour shift at work to cover another employee, and eating somewhat healthy foods.  Have a great Monday y'all!

Weekend Links

Fabulous stuff I'm obsessed with right now:

  • Adorable peachy orange sandals at Aldo.
  • "Art-y" nail polish designs, especially these and these.
  • The Royal Wedding.  Countdown the seconds with me!
  • I made this dish for Easter last year and it was such a hit that I plan on making it again this year.

30 Day Drawing Challenge

I saw this 30 day drawing challenge over on Old Brand New and then went and checked it out on Allison Lehman's blog.  I'm kind of tempted to do it!  I really like to draw but I never seem to get around to it.  When I went to makeup school years ago, we had a week of art & drawing which I loved and I vowed to keep it up but sadly didn't.  I do feel like I need to do something creative and different, so this might be just the thing.  But I'm also plagued with doubts.  I think I may need to set up a few ground rules for myself, such as-

1.  If I'm feeling so stressed out because I just don't have time to draw that day, I will give myself a break and not feel guilty and pick it up the next day.
2.  If I hate my drawing and don't want to show it to the world I simply won't post it that day, no biggie.
3.  Just so you all know, I can only draw people and animals, and I've been told that I do it well.  But when it comes to inanimate objects, like a piece of fruit or a chair, it's like watching a two year old.  What's that all about?  I don't know.  A lot of the items in the challenge DO NOT fall into my drawable category.  That scares me.

I hope other people do this challenge too!  I would love to look at all the different styles of drawing.  What do you guys think?  Should I do this?

Simple Things Pies

I have been reading/hearing a lot about Simple Things mini pies, so yesterday after work I stopped by their cute little restaurant to try some.  They had a whole refrigerated case full of beautiful pies that looked super yummy.  They make them in 3 sizes: cutie pie, simple pie, and big pie.  They only make certain flavors on certain days, but this was my lucky day because all the pies I wanted to try were available!  I got the salted caramel, coconut cream, and french silk cutie pies.

The salted caramel was AH-MAZ-ING, the french silk was great, but the coconut was only so-so.  I'll definitely be going back for some more of that salted caramel deliciousness.
Check them out at 8310 W 3rd Street in Los Angeles. Cutie Pies-$2.50 each.

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara

In addition to extremely long feet, I also suffer from a condition called "squidgey eye".  That's the medical term for it.  Basically it's where you have small eyes and heavy eyelids, so you don't see a lot of eyelid when you look at me.  When I smile, my eyes basically disappear.  It's next to impossible for me to wear eyeliner because you don't see it and it gets all messed up from the "squidgey eye" anyway.  I usually stick to lipstick for my facial makeup application.
Mascara is tricky as well, as it tends to flake more for me than for people who don't suffer from my terrible, terrible affliction.  For many years now I have stuck by the incomparable L'oreal Full Definition Voluminous and it's treated me well, but I normally don't wear anything on my bottom lashes, as it's just a pointless exercise in checking the mirror every five minutes and wiping off the mascara that has just flaked onto my face.  Well, no more my friends.  Enter Clinique Bottom Lash Mascara, the best invention since sliced bread.  It doesn't have the same formula as a regular mascara- it's much more liquidy.  Somehow this enables me to paint it on and run around all day looking like Twiggy with nary a flake in sight.  The brush is also extra tiny which enables you to get at every little lash in sight without getting the product all over your face.  Kudos Clinique!
For all of us out there suffering from "squidgey eye", we thank you!

Swedish Hasbeens for H&M

I spent some time at the Beverly Center this morning in line for the Swedish Hasbeens/H&M collaboration.  It wasn't as crazy as other collaborations for H&M have been, like when people camped out overnight for the Lanvin collection.  I was the first one in line and there were only about 15 people freaking out over these darling wooden soled shoes.  Unfortunately they didn't make the shoes in my size but at least I was able to get a couple pairs for my friends back in Portland who didn't have access to them.  And I purchased a fabulous ring for myself!

{The cutest thing ever was a girl holding 2 pairs of shoes, jumping up and down on the phone with her friend squealing "I got them, I got them!"  It was adorable.  I love it when people are excited about fashion!}

What Are You Reading?

The other day my friend Lauren and I were chatting on gmail and she wrote to me "What are you reading right now?"  I thought it was such a lovely thing to say.  You just don't hear that much anymore, and I like the idea that all of us out there are reading a book or two in our overstuffed electronic lives, most likely a page or two before we drift off to sleep.
This is what I'm reading right now:

The Duchess by Amanda Foreman
This is the book that the movie starring Keira Knightley was based on.  The film is really good by the way if you haven't seen it.  I had seen the book while shopping a few times but didn't feel the desire to buy it until I read this incredible piece by the author in Vogue.  I was so taken by what she wrote and the idea that you can't really understand someone else's pain until you have gone through the same thing yourself (something that I seem to keep discovering in my own life) that I decided to get the book immediately.  Well, it took me a few years but I'm finally reading it and it's amazing.
Good for:  women, mothers, and people who like historical dramas.

{PS- This is what Lauren is reading, it sounds so cute!}

Aquisitions

I wanted to show you the new wood and brass rings I just got- I've been wearing them every day.
They both have a kind of lovely organic curve to them and go together very well.

{Sometimes Strudel won't stay out of the shot so you just have to go with it!}

Bold Statement

Moroccan poufs and Maxi dresses.
Two things everyone loves that I just...don't.

My Milk Toof

You should know something about me:  I love cute tiny things.  I realize that's a rather general statement but it's true.  If something is cute and tiny I am going to love it and always will.  I know most people probably left this trait behind in childhood, and for the most part I did too.  It's not like I have a home overrun with kiddy toys but every once in a while I lose my shiz over something wee and adorable.  This time it's the Milk Teef, ickle and Lardee.  I first saw them on the adorable site My Milk Toof, and recently a book showcasing all their adventures came out.  A cute boy I know got it for me after I talked about it for like 4 hours straight one day.  It's beyond squee, just take a look:

Your baby teeth are called milk teeth.  They fall out and the tooth fairy comes and takes them away.  But these 2 teeth found their way back to their owner years later and have all sorts of crazy times.  ickle is more grown up and hates pickles, Lardee is chubby and loves food and being bad.

Bouquet

This week's bouquet is.... Hydrangeas!
I love me some hydrangeas.  Even though I usually mistakenly call them lilacs.  They are so pretty that it almost hurts to look at them don't you think?  I chose a vintage rectangular milk glass vase for this arrangement, it's been good to go through all my different vases and figure out which ones I really use and need.  I had some fun playing around with different camera filters on my phone with these.  The first photo is very soft and romantic, the second is all dusty and dry, very Miss Havisham.  Still romantic though!

Yes Please

I love this photo.

Affordable Anthropologie?

I ducked into Anthropologie last night just to do a lil' bit of window shopping.  Normally a purchase from there is a special one as everything costs so much!  Anyway I was pleasantly surprised to find these very affordable partially glazed terracotta planters.  They have 3 different sizes but I was partial to this long trough like one.  I think it will look just perfect with some succulents planted happily in it.  I bought one planter but I am already thinking of getting a second or third, they are the perfect neutral color, shapes, and style that I think could fit in anywhere.
$6-$10 at Anthropologie.

(BTW, they are much cuter in person than these pics from Anthro.  They make them look all bumpy like barnacles took up residence on them.  The glaze is actually very shiny, looks like a mercury mirror and is smooth in texture.)

To Do Lists & Notebooks

I have this thing with to do lists and writing everything down.  It's probably because I seriously will forget everything if I don't.  Over the years I've tried a lot of different options:  Large notebook.  Small notebook.  Designer Moleskine notebook, etc.  But my latest one fit the bill so well that I may never try another again.  It's a smallish (about 7 inches tall) black Mead Five Star that I bought spur of the moment at Target, thinking that it would just be filling in until I could find a better looking option.  It ended up being so perfect I bought two more and threw esthetics out the window.  The genius of the darn thing lies in the fact that it has built in pockets inside.  POCKETS!

To hold all of your important ideas and paint chip samples and magazine subscription cards that you never end up sending in.  It also has hard plastic covers which protect everything inside and don't bend and start looking all junky.  It has a pen holder on the front cover and since it just attaches to the paper with a wire on the side, it looks so much neater when you rip out a page.  No evidence left behind.
I guess what I'm trying to get at is that sometimes it's just best to get down to brass tacks and buy something because it works and not because it's by your favorite designer, looks amazing, and cost lots of money.  Lesson learned!

Here are a couple of more fashionable options that I love, but now that I've seen the light (notebook-wise) I just can't justify it-  Marc Jacobs and oh joy! for Target.

Bouquet, Part 2

Some of my carnations from this week's bouquet had bit the dust while others were still thriving.
I sized down the arrangement to fit in a cute little creamer jug and it's perfect for brightening up that dark spot or corner in your house.

Bling Bling

I don't wear much jewelry (I always feel like I'm trying too hard) but I do love giant oversized cocktail rings.  I buy most of them from Forever 21 for like 5 bucks and my collection keeps growing and growing.  Plus, they could come in really handy in a street fight.
There is this funny little lady that comes into my work all the time, we don't speak much of the same language but she always points at the jewelry and says "bling bling".  Lil Wayne really should have trademarked that phrase when he had the chance!

Graffiti {Los Angeles}

It seemed like every time I was stuck at a red light today I would look over and see some amazing graffiti.  I had just enough time to grab my phone and take a couple of pics before the light turned.

Back To It

Today was about getting back into the swing of things after taking a few months break from the makeup artist world.  It felt nice to be back on a set, working with others to achieve a common goal.  I'll share some of the photos with you when they are finished.
Other than that, have a great weekend and I hope it's sunny wherever you are!

Beyonce For A Day {or 10}

What do you think of my super amazing awesome golden glittery nails?
They are the new Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips.
How they work: buy a package of 16 strips for $10 (you may have to drive to 5 different drugstores because they are so popular and sold out everywhere), clean your nails, apply the strips (just like a sticker) and file off the excess product.
They have a million colors and designs (check 'em out here) and so far I am loving loving them!
They are supposed to last for 10 days so I will check in here and update.

*Update: Day 5-The strips are still going strong.  There are a couple of chips but surprisingly near the base of the nail, not at the tip.  I have been doing all my usual stuff, washing dishes, using my nails to pick price tags off stuff, etc. and they are holding up very well!  As my nails grow out, the strips start to look a little more fake because they are such a perfect oval shape next to my raggedy cuticles.  Haha.  Also, I have been getting TONS of compliments, everyone loves them and I am thinking of asking Sally Hansen for money because I have sent so much business their way!

*Update:  I ended up taking the strips off on day 8.  I could have left them on longer but my nails had grown out so much it was bothering me.  Also- these things were HARD to remove.  Lots of polish remover, lots of scrubbing.  But all in all, I loved them so much it was totally worth it.  I recommend this product wholeheartedly.
