I read an interesting tidbit in the latest Vogue, and decided to share it with y'all. Enjoy!
When summer releases us to the great outdoors for alfresco dining and impromptu canoe rides, mosquitoes follow close by, carrying the threat of West Nile Virus. For the first time, the Centers for Disease Control is recommending repellents without DEET, a chemical maligned for (largely unproven) health risks, not to mention its filmy feel and foul smell. The Center for Disease Control recently announced that the plant-based oil of lemon eucalyptus and the chemical picaridin (similar to DEET but kinder to the skin) are as effective as DEET in the battle of the bugs. Look for Cutter Advanced (the only source for picaridin in the U.S.) as well as Off! Botanicals and Repel Lemon Eucalyptus in drugstores, and the all-natural Zum Lab Bug Spray online at www.indigowild.com.
