New ideas!

I don't know if I ever actually used those little red and blue tubes, but I kept them for years, just because they were so unusual.
Fast forward to 2005, and those damn colored mascaras are everywhere, and I hate them! To me, they seemed a little weird and juvenile. But I have discovered two new ways to use them that have changed my mind.
1. When using a colored eyeshadow, use the same color of mascara on the bottom lashes only. This will balance out your eyes. Use a black or brown mascara per usual on top lashes.
2. Apply black or brown mascara to the underside of the lashes, then a bright one on the top side so it shows only when you blink.
I recently tried a great dual mascara by Smashbox. ($20.00 at Nordstrom or Sephora.com) One side is brown, and it is the perfect color, not too dark, and the other side is green. I was very impressed by this mascara! I have been addicted to my usual (Loreal full definition voluminous) and have not ventured out to try anything new in sooo long. This mascara does not flake or rub off and it goes on really evenly and lightly for a very natural look. I am looking forward to trying more Smashbox products!

I remember when brightly-colored mascaras were very cool ('80s). I was turned off after seeing an magazine advertisement featuring a model whose lashes were coated in yellow mascara. She looked like someone who woke up with a bad cold and eyes glued shut with mucus. Gross.
I heard that dark blue mascara will make your eyes look whiter and dark red (maroon) mascara will make green eyes "pop." I've tried both and didn't notice much of a difference.
